Fifty-Two Dinners

One new recipe a week for a year. That was the original goal set as a New Year's resolution way back in 2009.

It didn't happen. Nor did it happen in the following years.

But I have continued posting and striving to try one new recipe a week. Some months it happens. Some months it doesn't.

And along the way I've picked up readers from across the country who occasionally pop in to see what's cooking.

Clearly there are better food blogs than mine.

But if you're looking for quick, easy, and healthy with a dash of humor... I'm glad to share what I can.

Fancy-looking Asparagus

It's been a while since the last "new" recipe post. That might lead one to think "oh, she's just not made any new recipes lately." One would be wrong. I haven't made ANYTHING lately. Yes, my poor suffering husband has been living off of hot dogs and canned soup for the last month and a half. Luckily my son loves "peanut-jelly-samish."

And I have no excuse.

Even today I bring you no new recipe. In fact, it's not much of a recipe at all. I just took a picture of our side dish from last night's dinner because it looked pretty.

When a side dish recipe calls for over 5 ingredients and takes longer than 30 minutes to cook, it's not a side dish. It is the main dish. Next time you're in a pinch and you really want to impress your company, try this:

INGREDIENTS

1 bunch of Asparagus
Spoonful of butter
Splash of lemon juice
Small handful of sliced almonds

How is that for precise measurements??
DIRECTIONS

Steam the asparagus. Put into a bowl and top with butter. Let it melt and add a squirt of lemon juice. Toss almonds on top. Ta da!!

VERDICT

Yeah, yeah, I know that was a lame recipe. But I needed something to fill the page while I worked on a "real" new recipe.
