Crockpot Chex Mix
For the winter of 2012 we've declared all Sundays "Crockpot Sunday." Which means mostly new crockpot recipes from now until April!
The brown sugar chicken was first, and for tonight we're doing one of my favorites- Crockpot Lasagna.
Since the lasagna is not a "new" recipe to post here, we tried something else in the crockpot. Snack mix!
INGREDIENTS
--5 Cups mixed cereal- I used rice chex, life, and cheerios
--1-2 cups of dry roasted peanuts (salted or not, your choice)
--2 cups pretzel sticks
--1/2 t onion powder
--1/2 t seasoned salt
--3 T butter
--1 1/2 T Worcestershire Sauce
DIRECTIONS
Put the butter into the bottom of your crockpot and turn on low. Add the onion powder and seasoned salt. (uh oh... I don't have seasoned salt. Hmm... some sea salt and garlic powder aught to work... garlic belongs on everything!)
Add the Worcestershire sauce, then the dry ingredients. Stir together.
Cover and cook on low for 2-3 hours, stirring every 45 minutes to prevent the bottom from burning.
Dump out onto cookie sheet to cool. Store in an airtight container.
VERDICT
At first taste, I wasn't that impressed. But I was craving another handful. And then another. And another. And this WAS tasty!
EDIT: All right, this has to be said. And I'm going to be as delicate about it as possible. Yes, the mix is good. But it also has a certain side effect. Eating this mix... it, um... gives you gas. I have no idea why. But it does.
